Power card arrangements
A power card arrangement enables an electricity retailer to sell electricity for consumption at a premises using a card operated meter. A premises that has its electricity supplied by a power card arrangement is known as a 'power card premises'.
A power card arrangement can exist even if:
- the 'power card premises' is unoccupied
- the 'power card premises' is not connected for the supply of electricity
- electricity is not being consumed at the 'power card premises'
- the card operated meter is not installed in the 'power card premises'
Liability for the Community Ambulance Cover levy is imposed on a power card arrangement for each day the arrangement exists. The levy is payable by the owner of the power card arrangement even if there are several people occupying the power card premises. The owner may then choose to recover the levy from the occupants of the power card premises.
Exemptions
The following exemptions apply to power card arrangements:
- Government exemption
- Religious bodies and other institutions exemption
- Pensioner exemption
- Farming shed exemption
- Pump exemption
- Multiple power card meter exemption
- Hot water system exemption
- Public park facility exemption
- Security lighting exemption
- Equipment for medical condition exemption
- Common accounts (retirement village) exemption
- Common accounts (multi-unit building) exemption
How do I apply?
If you believe your situation meets the qualifying conditions for an exemption and you occupy a power card premises but are not the owner, you may fill out the relevant exemption form and send it to the owner. The owner will then need to forward the completed exemption form to the electricity retailer.
