Customer sale arrangements
A customer sale arrangement is an arrangement for the sale of electricity by an electricity retailer to a person for electricity consumed in Queensland and measured by a meter.
If the supply of electricity to your home or business is measured by different meters, and you only receive one electricity statement, there may be more than one customer sale arrangement, even if you and the electricity retailer have negotiated only one contract for the sale of electricity.
Your electricity statement may make reference to a meter number, a National Metering Identifier (NMI) or both. The number of NMIs on your statement reflects the number of customer sale arrangements you have. For example, if your statement makes reference to 5 NMIs which relate to 20 meters, you are liable for 5 levies, unless exemptions apply.
However, if your statement only makes reference to meter numbers, please refer to Frequently asked questions - customer sale arrangements
Your liability is imposed on each day your customer sale arrangement is in place, even if no electricity is actually sold under the arrangement on that day. This includes situations where:
- your premises are temporarily unoccupied
- supply of electricity is temporarily disconnected.
Exemptions
In some circumstances, you may claim an exemption from paying the levy on your customer sale arrangement.
- Government exemption
- Religious bodies and other institutions exemption
- Pensioner exemption
- Farming shed exemption
- Pump exemption
- Multiple accounts exemption
- Hot water system exemption
- Public park facility exemption
- Security lighting exemption
- Equipment for medical condition exemption
- Common accounts (retirement village) exemption
- Common accounts (multi-unit building) exemption
- Duplex common accounts exemption (2 pensioners)
- Duplex common accounts exemption (1 pensioner)
- Duplex common accounts exemption.
Unless all qualifying conditions for these exemptions are met, there is no discretion to allow the exemption. Because the levy relates to the supply of electricity, not the person holding the account, exemptions cannot be granted because of financial hardship, difficult circumstance, private health insurance or because the person does not live in Queensland.
