Searching the site

Search allows you to do a general search across all web pages and documents and is available on the top-right corner of each page on the website. To use, type a few words or phrases in the provided text area and select the 'Search' button. The search will return all results that match your query across all web pages and documents on the website. The more specific your search text, the more likely you will locate the desired information.

Tips for improving search results

  • Pay attention to the order in which the words or phrases are typed; this will affect the search results.
  • To find a document when you are unsure of the spelling or term: Add an asterisk * to the search word (e.g. gov* - this will produce results containing government, governing).
  • To find a specific phrase: Type the exact phrase in double quotes (e.g. 'protective services').
  • To find a document that contains any combination of several words: Type each word and separate them with 'AND'. (e.g. foster AND children).
  • To find a document which contains a specific word or phrase, and which also excludes a specific word or phrase: Type the required words or phrase and separate them with 'NOT' (e.g. mother NOT mum).
  • To find a document that contains either one of two specific words: Type each word and separate them with 'OR'. (e.g. mother OR mum).
  • To refine your search further: Combine any of the search functions.

Mouse over definitions

'Mouse over' definitions of terms within the text - as you read the text on this website you may see a word with an orange dotted underline. Simply place your mouse over this to bring up a definition of the term.

Browser problems

The Queensland Government recognises the need for supporting international web standards.

The content on the page you came from is accessible to all browsers and internet devices, but may not display well in browsers which do not comply with these standards.

Consider upgrading to a standards compliant browser. Recently released browsers generally have much improved support for standards.
